Senator Neda Imasuen (LP–Edo South) has awarded scholarships and purchased Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for 620 secondary and tertiary school students across Edo South Senatorial District.
Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Benin, the senator said the initiative was part of his commitment to promoting quality education in his constituency.
He also distributed basic learning materials to 21 primary schools and pledged to continue supporting foundational education.
In addition to educational support, Imasuen said he had facilitated training in agro and organic farming, distributed fertilisers, sewing machines, and generators, and launched capacity-building initiatives for youths and women. Ten constituents were also sponsored for a one-year fashion design training programme, while over 2,000 received grant support.
“These programmes are part of my effort to fight poverty, improve healthcare delivery, and foster self-reliance in Edo South,” he said.
Highlighting infrastructure interventions, Imasuen noted the installation of solar-powered streetlights in various communities, including Aragua Street, Ihogbe, and Ehirobo Street, as well as several others in Benin and rural areas.
He added that he had facilitated the recruitment of over 17 constituents into agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, NAFDAC, NIMC, and the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin.
A 3.5-kilometre road project is underway in Ovia North-East, while the Irokhin–Abudu road has been completed. Earth roads in communities such as Amagba and Ediaken have also been graded.
He said health centres had received medical equipment, while free medical outreach programmes and distribution of prescription glasses had taken place across the district. Traditional birth attendants were trained and equipped with modern skills to enhance maternal care in rural areas.
On food security, the senator disclosed that 5,000 bags of rice and other essentials are distributed annually to constituents, including widows.
