Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of civil servants.
He made the pledge on Friday while receiving a delegation of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State chapter, led by Acting Chairman Mr Bernard Egwekhide, at Government House, Benin City.
The governor stated that his government remained people-centred and transparent, embracing constructive criticism as a means of growth.
“Whatever we are doing to benefit Edo workers is not a favour—it is our responsibility. We were elected to serve, and we will deliver,” he said.
He expressed support for the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting it provided a solid foundation for state-level governance reforms focused on peace, unity, and development.
In his remarks, Mr Egwekhide lauded the governor for his pro-labour policies and congratulated him on his recent tribunal victory affirming his 2024 election win.
“Edo workers commend your administration’s commitment to development and welfare,” he said.
He highlighted several achievements, including the prompt payment of 13th-month salaries, increased subvention to Ambrose Alli University from N41 million to N500 million, regularisation of casual workers, and the rise in pension payments from N50 million to N1 billion monthly.
He also noted the establishment of a committee to review the compulsory pension scheme, with a final report expected soon.
In a separate engagement, Governor Okpebholo received Mr. Apanke Utande, the new Branch Controller of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), at Government House.
