The Edo State Government has pledged to improve access to education and employment opportunities for visually impaired persons in the state.
Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa made this commitment on Tuesday in Benin City during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Association of the Blind, Edo Chapter, led by its Chairman, Lucky Imafidon.
He assured them that the government remains dedicated to their welfare and will take concrete steps to support them.
Addressing the gathering, Idahosa emphasised the importance of inclusivity and acknowledged the contributions of visually impaired individuals to the state’s economy.
“I am pleased to welcome you here today. We recognise the challenges you face and the crucial role you play in our society. The Edo State Government is committed to ensuring that you have access to quality education and employment opportunities,” he stated.
He also reassured the group that Governor Monday Okpebholo is a leader who listens and will address their concerns.
The deputy governor reaffirmed that the government’s promises would be followed by concrete action. In response, Imafidon congratulated Idahosa and Okpebholo on their electoral victory and expressed hope that their administration would prioritise the needs of visually impaired residents.
The association’s General Secretary, Akhabue Matthew, also commended the deputy governor for recognising and engaging with the group so early in his tenure.
