Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has inaugurated a six-member committee to verify and commence pension payments to Local Government retirees, covering entitlements from 1996 to the present.
The governor, speaking in Abakaliki, emphasised the importance of pension payments, likening them to physical infrastructure projects. He urged the committee, chaired by Mrs Catherine Ogbu, to ensure transparency and deliver timely payments.
Nwifuru directed that all verified retirees must receive alerts for their payments on the same day they are confirmed, using available documents as the verification basis. He praised local government chairmen for prioritising the welfare of retirees.
Mrs Ogbu, responding on behalf of the committee, expressed gratitude for the trust and pledged to carry out the assignment diligently.
