Coronation Group Ltd. has provided financial literacy training to more than 1,000 students in Lagos as part of the 13th edition of Global Money Week.
The initiative, conducted across multiple schools, aimed to equip students with essential financial knowledge and promote responsible money management habits.
In a statement on Tuesday, Mr. Wole Onasanya, Managing Director of Coronation Group, explained that the initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainable finance and financial inclusion. “Financial literacy is not merely a skill; it is a catalyst for economic empowerment, sustainable growth, and societal transformation,” he stated.
He emphasised that by investing in financial education, the company is fostering a financially inclusive society, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on quality education and SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth. “At Coronation, we are committed to shaping a future where young Africans can make informed financial decisions that transcend generations,” Onasanya added.
Mrs. Adetola Akindele, Vice Principal of Student Affairs at Chrisland School, Idimu, highlighted the impact of the programme. “It’s never too early to develop good financial habits. These young minds can start saving, investing, and understanding the importance of financial protection through insurance. Programmes like this lay the foundation for a more financially secure future,” she said.
The financial literacy sessions, themed “Think Before You Follow: Wise Money Tomorrow,” covered critical topics such as budgeting, saving, investment principles, and financial risk assessment. Professional facilitators from Coronation Group used real-life scenarios to teach students how to cultivate sustainable financial habits and make informed financial decisions.
Participating schools included Chrisland School, Victoria Garden City; Greensprings School, Anthony Campus; Chrisland School, Lekki; and Chrisland School, Idimu.
