The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has inaugurated a new chapter in Warri, Delta State, as part of efforts to expand access to professional human resource development across Nigeria’s South-South region.
Held in Ogunu, Warri, the launch drew 162 registrants, with 115 attending in person and 47 participating virtually.
The event featured a masterclass on leadership and organisational development, delivered by Sean Olabode Badiru, CIPM Council member and CEO of Africa Tech Hub. Speaking on the theme, “People. Purpose. Process. Prominence,” Badiru encouraged HR professionals to prioritise alignment and meaning over visibility.
“Prominence is not a destination—it’s a consequence of living your values,” he said.
He highlighted the centrality of “People” in driving sustainable growth, citing Gallup’s 2023 Global Workplace Report, which found that 59% of employees globally are disengaged. He urged professionals to rediscover their personal “why” through awareness of their strengths, values, and interests.
On “Purpose”, Badiru emphasised the need to embed it into hiring, budgeting, and performance systems.
“Your CV lists your skills, but your purpose is what makes you come alive,” he said. “If it’s not reflected in your recruitment and reward strategies, it’s not a purpose — it’s a poster.”
Badiru also warned against outdated systems, noting that many organisations fail not for lack of ideas, but for lack of structure.
Mrs. Tega Lynn Olowohunwa, Chairman of CIPM’s Delta State Branch, said the Warri Chapter reflects the institute’s commitment to decentralising learning and building HR capacity across regions. She described it as a future hub for seminars, workshops, and networking tailored to local workforce needs.
Mrs. Abugewa Precious was appointed the pro-tem chairman of the new chapter.
