The Borno State Government has announced that its contributory healthcare insurance scheme for civil servants will commence in December.
Hajiya Mairo Bunu Lawan, Chairperson of the Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA), disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday in Maiduguri, shortly after the agency’s board meeting.
Lawan explained that the scheme, established in 2019, has now been approved for full implementation in the state’s formal sector.
“The governor approved the deduction of 3.5 per cent of the basic salary of each civil servant and political appointee, while the state government will contribute 6.5 per cent—more than double the workers’ share,” she said.
She added that the initiative was designed to eliminate financial barriers to healthcare access, particularly for vulnerable groups.
“Although 95,000 poor and vulnerable residents have already been enrolled, we are now registering an additional 25,000 people from the formal sector, including 12,000 civil servants who will begin to benefit within the next three months,” she noted.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA, Dr. Saleh Abba Kaza, assured that the agency had made adequate arrangements to ensure the steady supply of quality medical commodities to designated health facilities across the state.
