The Bayelsa State Government has reassured applicants involved in the suspended teachers’ recruitment exercise that they will be shortlisted and employed soon.
Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo gave the assurance on Wednesday while meeting aggrieved prospective teachers in Yenagoa. He also promised that salary arrears for successful candidates who resumed work before the suspension would be paid.
Ewhrudjakpo urged the applicants to remain patient, stating that the recruitment process had earlier been marred by irregularities that failed to reflect the needs across the state’s eight local government areas.
He acknowledged their right to peaceful protest but cautioned against any action that infringes on others’ rights. Commending them for their dedication, he assured that qualified applicants would be deployed to schools before the end of August.
Teki Ayebaene, who led the delegation, said about 800 applicants across 413 government-owned secondary schools had been affected. He appealed for swift government action.
