The Bauchi State Local Government Service Commission has begun a two-day workshop to prepare about 14,000 local government workers for the 2025 promotion examination, as part of efforts to improve staff performance and service delivery across the state.
The workshop, which commenced in Bauchi, is aimed at helping workers understand staff regulations, professional requirements, and the general knowledge needed to succeed in the examination and in their daily duties.
Speaking while declaring the workshop open, the Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Wabi, said the training was organised to ensure that workers perform well in the promotion exercise and contribute more effectively to the local government system.
He said the initiative reflects the commitment of Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration to human capital development and the strengthening of the civil service.
Mr. Wabi explained that the workshop was designed to acquaint participants with regulatory, professional, and general knowledge relevant to their jobs. He said the programme would help boost workers’ capacity, improve their reading culture, and enhance efficiency in service delivery.
According to him, the state government has resolved to sustain the promotion examination policy and continue to strengthen it for the benefit of civil servants and the civil service.
“The conduct of the workshop is, therefore, a continued demonstration of the governor’s commitment and concern towards the uplift of local governments, as well as human capital development,” Mr. Wabi said.
Also speaking, the Overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Nasir Dewu, said the promotion examination helps keep staff up to date with service regulations, procedures, and general knowledge, which are essential for effective, efficient, and productive local government administration.
Mr. Dewu said the success recorded during the 2023 promotion examination, which was held in 2024, showed that the policy was worthwhile. He commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his continued support and urged participants to reciprocate by being more dedicated to their duties and helping to improve the efficiency of the local government service.
In his remarks, Alhaji Gambo Magaji of DuggeManagement Services Limited, the consultants handling the promotion examination, advised participants to pay close attention during the workshop. He said the resource persons were experienced serving and retired technocrats and assured workers that the examination questions would be drawn from the topics covered during the sessions.
