Aviation Unions Threaten August 11 Nationwide Strike Over NAMA Salary Dispute

Nigeria’s aviation industry could face a nationwide shutdown from Monday, 11 August 2025, as four major unions have given a final strike notice over delayed salary adjustments for Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) workers.

In a joint statement, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, National Union of Air Transport Employees, Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees accused the Federal Government of failing to implement a new pay structure eight months after negotiations concluded.

The unions have warned that, from 5:00 a.m. on 11 August, NAMA staff will withdraw their services indefinitely, grounding flights nationwide. Notices have been sent to the aviation minister, NAMA’s managing director, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), security agencies, and airline operators.

The unions advised airlines and the travelling public to make alternative arrangements ahead of the planned shutdown.
