In a major boost for youth welfare in Nigeria, the Akwa Ibom State Government has approved a fourfold increase in the monthly allowance paid to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state.
Governor Umo Eno announced the increase on Friday during the State Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo. The new allowance, rising from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000, will take effect from 1 August 2025.
The governor stated that the move is intended to complement the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance and help corps members meet basic living expenses during their service year.
“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” he said.
This latest intervention follows Governor Eno’s earlier approval for the reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Ikot Itie Idung—part of his administration’s broader commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of corps members in the state.
