Skills Gap: Urgent Reforms Needed in Nigeria’s Civil Service, Says Walson-Jack

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, has condemned the abduction of federal civil servants near Kabba, Kogi State. The officers were travelling to Abuja to participate in the ongoing Computer-Based Test (CBT) promotion examinations organised by the Federal Civil Service Commission.

In a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Information, Mrs. Eno Olotu, Walson-Jack described the incident as “distressing and unfortunate,” expressing deep concern for the abducted officers, their families, and colleagues across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. We join all well-meaning Nigerians in praying for their safe and speedy release,” she said.

The Head of Service expressed confidence in the ability of the nation’s security agencies to ensure the officers’ safe rescue. She also urged civil servants and members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, reaffirming the Federal Civil Service’s commitment to the welfare and safety of its workforce.

“We stand together as one Civil Service family—united in faith, hope, and solidarity—praying earnestly for the safe return of our colleagues. Their safety and well-being remain our utmost priority,” she added.
