The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has empowered 19 injured workers under its Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) to help them regain economic independence and rebuild their lives.
The empowerment ceremony was held on Tuesday in Abuja as part of the Fund’s vocational rehabilitation programme, designed to support workers who suffered workplace injuries or disabilities.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of NSITF, Mr. Oluwaseun Faleye, said the initiative reflects the Fund’s strong commitment to social protection and the welfare of Nigerian workers.
Faleye, represented by Mrs. Nkiru Ede-Ogunnaike, General Manager, Claims and Compensation, explained that the programme aligns with the Employees’ Compensation Act (ECA) 2010, which provides for the rehabilitation and reintegration of injured employees.
He said the vocational rehabilitation process is implemented in three stages — reorientation, vocational training, and empowerment with start-up tools — all aimed at restoring hope and self-sufficiency among affected workers.
“This event marks another milestone in our journey to restore dignity through work for beneficiaries in the Lagos and Ibadan zones,” he said.
Faleye noted that the exercise celebrates resilience, courage, and the power of second chances, adding that plans are underway to expand the rehabilitation programme nationwide to enable more injured workers to benefit and build new livelihoods after workplace accidents.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Taiwo Kosoko, who was trained in poultry farming, expressed gratitude to the NSITF for the support and pledged to make good use of the empowerment tools. He also commended the Managing Director for the ongoing transformation within the Fund and for ensuring that benefits reach workers and stakeholders.
Since its launch in July 2025, the NSITF’s vocational rehabilitation programme has supported 57 beneficiaries from selected zones across the country.
