Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared an end to the era of unpaid workers’ salaries in the state.
The governor made the declaration on Saturday during the combined 12th to 23rd convocation ceremony of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO).
While addressing staff and students at the event, Mr.Aiyedatiwa announced the immediate payment of three months’ salaries to the institution’s workers. He recalled that the polytechnic had been unable to meet its salary obligations before he assumed office, but explained that his administration had since provided special intervention funds to clear the arrears.
“The era of owing workers’ salaries in Ondo State is gone,” Aiyedatiwa said.
He added that his government took deliberate measures to rescue the institution from what he described as “a comatose state and impending total collapse.”
The governor commended the management and students of RUGIPO for their patience during the challenging period and assured them of continued government support. He also approved the renovation of the RUGIPO staff school and granted the staff’s request for an official vehicle.
Earlier, the Acting Rector of the institution, Mr.Olorunwa Adegun, confirmed that the governor’s intervention had enabled the payment of outstanding salaries.
“The governor’s decisive action through special intervention funds cleared the backlog of salary arrears for staff,” Adegun said, noting that the intervention restored hope and ended a 12-year convocation drought at the institution.
