FG Launches National Job Centre Project to Strengthen Labour Market Systems

By Deborah Bodunde

The Federal Government has inaugurated the National Job Centre Project, a nationwide network of digital employability hubs designed to link skilled Nigerians with job opportunities and strengthen labour market systems.

The project was announced by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Rt. Hon. NkeirukaOnyejeocha, during the Mastercard Foundation Annual Nigeria Partner Convening held in Lagos on Wednesday. She said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to promote dignified, inclusive and transformative employment.

According to a statement from the ministry, the centres will function as digital job hubs that integrate technology, data and career services to improve job matching and placement nationwide.

“The National Job Centres will integrate digital job matching, data tracking and career advisory services to create a harmonised and inclusive system,” Onyejeocha explained. “They are part of a broader framework to empower youth and position them to compete globally.”

She also unveiled the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP) — a flagship scheme designed to bridge the gap between skills training and actual job placement.

“Through LEEP, we’re strengthening the bridge between training and employment,” she said. “Our goal is not just to create jobs but to ensure fair wages, protect workers’ rights, and strengthen labour market governance.”

Onyejeocha emphasised that achieving decent and sustainable work requires collaboration between government, the private sector, development partners, and civil society.

She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to partnerships that promote social inclusion and economic stability, adding:

“The ministry remains ready to work with the Mastercard Foundation and other partners to build a future where work is dignified, inclusive, and transformative.”
