Customs Shortlists 286,697 Candidates for September Online CBT

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has shortlisted 286,697 candidates for the second stage of its ongoing recruitment exercise. The stage will be conducted through an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) from 14 to 21 September.

NCS spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, noting that the process underscores the service’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and capacity building in line with its manpower needs.

He explained that the shortlisted candidates emerged from 573,523 applications received after the service advertised 3,927 vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres in December 2024.

Maiwada stated that candidates can take the test from any location with reliable internet but must use a laptop or desktop with a functional webcam.

“A facial verification process will be carried out during login. Candidates are advised to maintain a neat appearance to avoid recognition issues,” he said.

He added that the platform is sensitive to noise and movement, warning that distractions, whispering, or excessive motion could result in automatic logout. Switching between windows, he said, would be flagged as malpractice and could lead to disqualification.

To prepare applicants, Maiwada announced a mandatory pre-test, scheduled two days before the main CBT, to enable candidates to familiarise themselves with the platform. According to him, participants will receive two separate links — one for the pre-test and another for the main examination.

He further explained that only applicants for the Superintendent Cadre will undergo an additional CBT at later stages.

Maiwada assured that the recruitment process remains merit-driven and urged applicants to rely exclusively on the NCS’s official communication channels for authentic updates.

“The NCS will neither request any form of payment nor conduct recruitment activities on social media platforms,” he emphasised.

He added that the exercise is part of the service’s statutory mandate to strengthen manpower capacity and improve service delivery.
