Enugu Workers Hail Mbah as Senior Staff Promotion Gets Green Light

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Enugu State chapter, has commended Governor Peter Mbah for approving the 2023/2024 promotion exercise for senior staff in the local government service.

The union described the move as a strong demonstration of the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare, particularly at the grassroots level.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Enugu, NULGE President, Udoagha Ani, said the governor’s decision reflects sensitivity to the needs of local government workers, who he described as the “backbone of service delivery in the state.”

Ani recalled that Governor Mbah had previously approved the implementation of the 30,000 minimum wage and its consequential adjustment for council workers, placing them on the same scale as their counterparts in the state civil service.

“This decision has ended the disparity in workers’ welfare across different services in the state,” Ani said, adding that the governor also supported a comprehensive staff verification exercise that enhanced accountability, transparency, and productivity in the local government system.

He further commended Mbah’s recent pronouncement of a new 80,000 minimum wage for state workers, which surpasses the 70,000 approved by the Federal Government.

“The leadership of the union and local government workers in Enugu State, unreservedly, pass a vote of confidence in the governor’s uncommon leadership style,” Ani said.

The NULGE president also lauded the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), led by Nana Ogbodo, for its role in driving reforms that culminated in the promotion exercise.

Ani pledged the union’s continued support for the Mbah administration, assuring that NULGE would remain a reliable partner in advancing workers’ welfare and strengthening grassroots development.
