PTAD, ICPC Join Forces to Strengthen Accountability in Pension Scheme

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to curb fraudulent practices in Nigeria’s pension system.

The agreement, which focuses on tackling corruption in the administration of the Federal Government’s Defined Benefit Pension Scheme (DBS), was signed by PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, and the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.

Odunaiya said the MoU demonstrates the two institutions’ commitment to integrity and transparency while ensuring that pensioners benefit from good governance.

“This MoU reflects our shared determination to combat pension corruption within the DBS, uphold integrity, and advance accountability within our respective mandates. By leveraging our combined strengths, we can significantly enhance our capacity to prevent, detect, and prosecute corruption-related offences in the pension system,” she stated.

Dr. Aliyu described the partnership as a significant step in the fight against pension fraud. He explained that combining PTAD’s digitised database with ICPC’s investigative and prosecutorial powers would create “a seamless and powerful force” against corruption in the scheme.

He also commended Odunaiya for her commitment to safeguarding the welfare of pensioners, stressing that the collaboration would protect Nigerians’ retirement benefits from fraudulent practices.

Both agencies emphasised that the partnership aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its drive to strengthen governance and accountability across federal institutions.
