
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has distributed empowerment packages to 1,130 graduates from six entrepreneurship skills institutes, in a bid to foster youth self-reliance, job creation, and economic growth.
The governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, announced this in a statement issued in Kano on Saturday. He said the initiative targeted graduates from various vocational and technical fields, equipping them with tools, funding, and resources to start their own businesses.
Beneficiaries included: Informatics Institute, Kura – 250 graduates received laptops, phone repair kits, and ₦100,000 each; Livestock Institute, Bagauda – 140 graduates received bulls, animal feed, veterinary medicines, and ₦100,000 start-up grants and Driving Institute, Kumbotso – 250 graduates received driving certificates, licence processing support, ₦200,000 each, and a ₦15,000 monthly transport allowance
Others are Horticulture Institute, Bagauda – 200 graduates received water pumps, wheelbarrows, spraying machines, cutting tools, and ₦100,000 each; Fisheries Institute, Bagauda – 200 graduates received collapsible tanks, fish feed, veterinary medicines, juvenile fish, weighing scales, and ₦100,000 each and Film Institute, Tiga – 90 graduates received film production empowerment packages.
Dawakin-Tofa described the programme as an effort to “rekindle hope, restore dreams, and unlock the potential of youths to become productive contributors to Kano’s economy.”
Governor Yusuf urged beneficiaries to make good use of the tools and grants, describing the initiative as “the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey.”
The institutes, established during former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso’s tenure, had been closed but were recently revived by the current administration. Former Governor Kwankwaso, represented by Dr Ahmad Ajuji, commended the revival, while the Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II, praised the administration’s commitment to youth development.
