The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) is leading efforts to promote Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices among Nigerian businesses amid rising global and domestic pressure for sustainable business conduct.
On 8–9 July, NECA staff and partners underwent a Training of Trainers (ToT) session in Lagos under the International Labour Organization’s LEADER programme—an initiative aimed at enhancing ESG competencies among business membership organisations.
Developed by the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO), the course was adapted to the Nigerian context to equip trainers with practical ESG tools and strategies.
“ESG is no longer optional. NECA is committed to leading the charge for responsible and sustainable business,” said NECA Director-General, Mr. Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde.
From 10–11 July, a follow-up training was held for 52 companies, including multinationals and SMEs from various sectors, who exchanged experiences and deepened their ESG knowledge.
Many participants have already begun implementing ESG strategies as part of broader efforts to align with international sustainability benchmarks and enhance competitiveness.
