
Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abubakar Adamu has formally assumed office as the new Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), with a promise to enhance the welfare of retired military personnel and improve the board’s operational efficiency.
The handover ceremony took place in Abuja and was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Ahmed Mohammed.
According to Mohammed, the leadership transition marks a new chapter for the MPB and symbolises continuity, professionalism, and renewed commitment to efficient service delivery. He reaffirmed the board’s dedication to timely pension payments and streamlined administrative processes under the new leadership.
He highlighted AVM Adamu’s extensive experience across finance, administration, and defence policy within the Nigerian Armed Forces. Adamu has held several strategic roles, including Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji; Deputy Director of Budget at the Defence Intelligence Agency; and Principal Staff Officer (Finance) at the Air Warfare Centre.
Adamu also previously served as Commander of the 081 Pay and Accounting Group and Director of Finance at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters. He later became Managing Director of Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL), before being appointed Group Managing Director of the NAFIL Group of Companies.
He also served as Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, underscoring his strategic and policy expertise.
Describing him as a seasoned administrator and financial expert, Mohammed said AVM Adamu is a fellow and member of several professional bodies. His appointment is widely regarded as a step towards greater transparency, accountability, and service excellence at the board.
Mohammed added that stakeholders in the military community are optimistic that his leadership will usher in reforms, including prompt pension disbursement, improved record management, and stronger engagement with retired service personnel.
In his remarks, AVM Adamu pledged to lead with integrity and to justify the trust placed in him by the Armed Forces and the Federal Government.
