The Lagos State Government has announced its target of securing at least 1,000 applications from indigenes for recruitment into the Nigerian Army’s ongoing 89 Regular Recruits Intake for Trades and Non-Tradesmen and Women.
Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, disclosed this during a sensitisation programme held on Wednesday at the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area and the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.
Salu-Hundeyin revealed that while 600 Lagos indigenes had already applied, the state aims to increase that number to 1,000 before the application deadline of 17 May.
She noted that President Bola Tinubu had directed that a minimum of 150 indigenes be recruited from each state, expressing optimism that Lagos could surpass this benchmark.
“The military is a noble profession,” she said. “It’s about protecting lives and serving the nation. This is a call to serve our fatherland, and we want more young Lagosians to answer this call.”
She encouraged indigenes aged between 18 and 26 to apply, noting that the military offers educational opportunities. “If you want to become a lawyer or a doctor, the government will train you for free,” she added.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Mrs Mojisola Badmus, urged parents to support their children in joining the military, saying the armed forces offer a range of career opportunities beyond combat.
“It’s not just about war. But if we don’t defend our land, who will?” Badmus said.
