Edo Govt Clears Salary Arrears for Polytechnic Staff

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the payment of five months’ salary arrears, in addition to April 2025 salaries, for staff of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, in Ovia South-West Local Government Area.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday in Benin by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Fred Itua.

According to the statement, the state government has taken concrete steps to permanently address salary-related issues at the institution.

The governor also announced that salaries for the polytechnic staff will now be managed directly through the state government’s payroll system.

“This decision to centralise salary payments under the state’s direct payroll is part of Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to repositioning Edo State’s tertiary education sector for improved efficiency and long-term stability,” Itua said.

It will be recalled that polytechnic staff had, in October 2024, raised concerns over months of unpaid salaries, disclosing that their May 2024 salaries were not paid until September 2024.
