The Taraba State Judiciary has trained its staff on electronic case filing, a key component of the Nigerian Case Management System (NCMS), as part of efforts to enhance transparency and efficiency in the administration of justice.

The training, held in Jalingo, was conducted under the Judiciary Information Technology Policy Committee (JITP-COM) and led by Mr Folorunsho Agbeja, Assistant Director of ICT at the Supreme Court.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the event, Agbeja emphasised the importance of leveraging technology to improve the justice system. “The goal is to ensure quicker and more transparent case handling through digital infrastructure,” he said.

The training involved top judicial officers, including the Chief Judge, Deputy Chief Registrar, Directors, Court Registrars, and Bailiffs. Agbeja highlighted the centrality of reliable internet connectivity to the effectiveness of the e-filing system.

He praised the commitment shown by participants, expressing optimism that the knowledge gained would translate into better service delivery. He also commended the Chief Judge, Justice Joel Agya, for embracing technology and encouraged the judiciary to make such training a regular occurrence.

Some participants also shared their views. Mr. Danjuma Audu, a staff officer in the Chief Judge’s office, said the training enhanced their understanding of court administration. Another participant, Mr. Martins Yakubu, noted that the new skills would improve case management and align judicial practices with global standards.

The Taraba High Court has already commenced the electronic transmission of cases.
