Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has pledged the state’s support in sensitising young people to opportunities in the ongoing nationwide Nigerian Army recruitment exercise.
The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Caleb Ajagba, gave the assurance when he received the 2025 Nigerian Army Recruitment Awareness Team at Government House, Umuahia, on Wednesday.
He noted that the state government would integrate the recruitment sensitisation into its youth engagement strategy.
“We will ensure Abia youths are fully informed and motivated to embrace this opportunity. Structures will be set up to facilitate awareness among eligible candidates,” he said.
Governor Otti underscored the link between security and national development, and lauded the Nigerian Army for its professionalism and integration of the South-East into national security operations.
Brigadier-General Chima Ekeator, leader of the Army team, expressed concern over the region’s low participation, revealing that only 53 of the 200 allocated slots for Abia were filled during the last exercise.
He said efforts are underway to change this trend through stakeholder engagement and town hall meetings across the region.
