MTNF Expands Access to STEM, Visually Impaired Students with 2025 Scholarship Launch

The MTN Foundation (MTNF) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in Nigeria with the launch of its 2025 scholarship application cycle.

According to the Executive Director of the Foundation, Ms. Odunayo Sanya, the initiative promotes academic excellence, strengthens inclusion, and supports students – particularly those with visual impairments.

In a statement issued on Monday, Sanya said the scholarship programme features three categories: the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS), the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS), and the MTN Top 10 UTME Scholarship.

The STS is open to 300-level students in science and technology-related fields who have attained a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 (Second Class Upper or equivalent).

The SBS, meanwhile, caters to visually impaired students in 200-level with a minimum CGPA of 2.5.

Students who rank among the top 10 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), as announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), automatically qualify for the MTN Top 10 UTME Scholarship.

“As part of our long-standing investment in education, the MTN Foundation has awarded 14,728 scholarships over the past 15 years, totalling more than ₦3 billion,” Sanya said.

She noted that beneficiaries receive not only financial support but also access to mentorship, internship placements, and digital certification opportunities, equipping them with essential skills for today’s dynamic job market.

“Education is the backbone of national development. At MTN Foundation, we are committed to ensuring that no promising student is left behind due to financial hardship,” she added.

In 2024, the Foundation increased the annual scholarship value from ₦200,000 to ₦300,000, to be maintained for three years until graduation, provided recipients sustain the minimum grade requirements.

Sanya described the application process as user-friendly and fully online, allowing nationwide accessibility.

“Eligible candidates are encouraged to visit mtn.ng/scholarships and submit their applications before the deadline on 25 April 2025,” she said.
