Media Key to Strengthening Workers’ Rights, Says NSITF Boss

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has called for stronger collaboration with the media to enhance awareness and advocacy around workers’ social safety in the country.

Managing Director, Mr. Olawaseun Faleye, made the appeal during an engagement with members of the Labour Correspondents Association of Nigeria (LECAN) in Abuja, coinciding with the launch of a mass advocacy and sensitisation campaign.

“As we begin this new phase of transformation, we hope LECAN will be key partners in promoting workers’ welfare and strengthening social safety systems,” he said.

Faleye stressed the media’s role in shaping public opinion and called for a partnership based on transparency, mutual trust, and a shared commitment to advancing labour-related issues.

“You are not only advocates but also beneficiaries of the system. As workers under various employers, you too are entitled to the protection NSITF provides,” he said, urging journalists to ensure their employers register them under the scheme.

He acknowledged that despite the scheme’s benefits, public awareness remained low. “To address this, we are investing in outreach programmes, using both traditional and digital media to educate stakeholders on their rights and responsibilities.”

Faleye added that the media’s support was vital to repositioning NSITF for long-term sustainability and impact.
