The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has disbursed over N1.6 billion to 776 verified and eligible next of kin (NoK) of deceased pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Olugbenga Ajayi, said the beneficiaries include relatives of pensioners from the civil service, police, parastatals, and the customs, immigration, and prisons pension departments.

Ajayi detailed the disbursements, stating that 629 NoK under the parastatals pension department received N1.48 billion, while 103 NoK from the civil service pension department were paid N101.14 million. Additionally, 43 NoK of police pensioners received N58.95 million, and one NoK from the customs, immigration, and prisons pension department was paid N2.43 million.

Quoting PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, Ajayi said, “This payment underscores the directorate’s commitment to settling the entitlements of deceased pensioners, subject to the availability of funds.”

Odunaiya reaffirmed PTAD’s dedication to clearing outstanding pension liabilities, describing the recent disbursement as a significant step forward. She emphasised that settling death benefits is a vital aspect of PTAD’s mandate, providing financial relief to families who have lost their loved ones.

She expressed confidence that the payments would offer comfort to beneficiaries and reiterated the agency’s commitment to pensioners and their families.

Odunaiya assured pensioners and their families that PTAD remains dedicated to delivering efficient and timely payments in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
