The Chairman, Bwari Area Council, FCT, Mr John Gabaya, has assured workers in the council that his administration will do its best to implement the N70, 000 new minimum wage.
Gabaya made this statement at the inauguration of a renovated complex of the Local Education Authority (LEA) Secretariat, on Thursday in Bwari, Abuja.
He said the new minimum wage for workers would be implemented as soon as there is enough money in the council.
“We were able to clear arrears of workers wages from 2010 to 2021 and so, we will continue to make efforts to clear outstanding ones. We have been sworn in to serve our people therefore, we must not run away from our responsibility; I assure you that we will strive to do our best,” he said.
Gabaya went on to say concerning the new minimum wage, that one cannot give what they do not have – however, we have made a pledge that as soon we have the funds, we will start the implementation,” he said.
The chairman also commended the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Bwari, for working in harmony.
He also commended the different stakeholders for their support for the council.
The council boss pledged that his administration would ensure effective service delivery in the council.
He appealed to workers to remain patient, promising that his administration was committed to addressing their challenges.
Speaking on the newly renovated LEA Secretariat, Gabaya said that the step was to give the complex an uplift and provide for a better working environment for the staff of the Authority.
He assured that, further improvements such as landscaping, drilling of borehole for potable water, and furnishing of the offices, would also commence immediately at the complex.
Earlier, the Education Secretary, Mr Tanko Isuwa, said that since Secretariat was moved to the complex in 2004, it had not been renovated and had shown signs of dilapidation.
He appreciated Gabaya’s administration for attending to the demands of his office, adding that the change would motivate workers to deliver more on the job responsibilities.
He, however, appealed for provision of potable water in the complex to boost hygiene and sanitation.
The event was attended by staff of the secretariat, political appointees and members of the legislative council.
