FG to Fast-Track Civil Service Reforms Before 2025 Deadline

The Federal Government remains committed to achieving the goals set out in the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP-25), according to Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).

Walson-Jack made this known in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), led by its Managing Director, Malam Ali Muhammad Ali.

She emphasised the need for a strong partnership with NAN to enhance public awareness of the FCSSIP-25 and its objectives.

The FCSSIP-25 was introduced to comprehensively reform Nigeria’s civil service, improving service delivery while addressing inefficiencies, lack of meritocracy, and outdated administrative practices. The plan aims to achieve these through capacity building, performance management, innovation, and a culture of accountability, with the ultimate goal of creating a more professional and effective public service.

Walson-Jack stressed the urgency of accelerating the plan’s implementation before its scheduled conclusion on 31 December 2025.

“We inherited the FCSSIP-25 upon assuming office, and as the name suggests, it is set to end this year. We have, therefore, prioritised fast-tracking reforms under the plan,” she stated.

She disclosed that seven ‘War Rooms’ had been established to drive key initiatives under the strategy, noting that significant progress had already been made.

“With the plan nearing its conclusion, we have adopted the theme: ‘FCSSIP-25 Final Print: Delivering Results – Our Year of Accomplishment.’

“We remain committed to achieving the strategy’s objectives before the deadline.

“In this regard, we appeal to NAN to strengthen its collaboration with us in disseminating information about our activities,” she said.

Walson-Jack also commended NAN for its credibility and longstanding reputation in news dissemination.

“NAN is a household name. From childhood, we knew that if a report came from NAN, it was authentic,” she remarked.

In response, Ali praised Walson-Jack’s distinguished career and dedication to public service at both state and federal levels.

“It is an honour to engage with you on this collaboration. Your career, spanning from state to federal service, is a testament to your dedication and commitment,” he said.

He assured her of NAN’s commitment to supporting civil service reforms and sought her backing in repositioning NAN as Africa’s leading news content provider.

“We believe NAN stands to benefit from a stronger partnership with your office. This engagement is crucial to our efforts to revamp NAN and reclaim our position as Africa’s premier news content provider,” he said.

Ali highlighted NAN’s existing partnerships with international news agencies, including Reuters, Agence France-Presse (AFP), and Xinhua, and ongoing discussions with the Associated Press (AP) for further collaboration.

The NAN delegation included Abdulhadi Khaliel, Director of Administration and Human Resource Management; Mufutau Ojo, Editor-in-Chief; Kayode Olaitan, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics; Dayo Osho, Protocol Officer to the MD; and Stephanie Oyovbaire, Assistant Chief Administrative Officer.
