Brigadier-General Chima Ekeator, leader of the Army Headquarters Recruitment Sensitisation Team in Anambra State, has revealed that only 200 youths from the South-East have registered for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise.
He made the disclosure during a sensitisation event held for youth leaders and President-Generals of various communities in the state.
“This awareness campaign is necessary because, based on current data, only 200 persons have registered from the South-East, whereas other regions have recorded over 4,000 applicants,” he said.
He urged community leaders to return to their constituencies and encourage young people to participate in the exercise. Increased registration, he added, would improve the region’s representation in the Nigerian Army and ensure the South-East meets its recruitment quota.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in a message delivered by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, pledged continued efforts to sensitise youths to take interest in the recruitment drive.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, noted that the recruitment targets youths between 18 and 22 years and called on traditional rulers and community leaders to mobilise at least 10 candidates each.
