The IT Bridge Academy, in collaboration with Sightsavers, has trained 25 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in digital skills, equipping them for self-reliance and potential entrepreneurship.

The graduation ceremony, held on Thursday in Kano, marked a significant step towards promoting digital inclusion for PWDs.

Speaking at the event, Mr Sunday Isiaku, representing Sightsavers Nigeria, reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to creating digital opportunities for PWDs.

“We believe in an inclusive digital economy where no one is left behind,” he stated.

Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by his Special Adviser on ICT, Malam Yusuf Sharada, commended Sightsavers and the IT Bridge Academy for their efforts in empowering PWDs.

“This administration is committed to improving the lives of PWDs. This training is a step in the right direction, and we see you as partners in progress,” he said.

David Daser, President and CEO of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), congratulated the graduates, praising their resilience throughout the training. He noted that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on democracy, economic growth, and workforce development.

Ingausa Habu, Executive Director of the academy, underscored the importance of recognising and respecting the unique abilities of PWDs.

“PWDs deserve dignity and respect, and we must continue to create opportunities for them,” he emphasised.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Mr Peter Gwer expressed gratitude to Sightsavers and the IT Bridge Academy for their investment in their future.

“This graduation is not the end but the beginning of a new chapter. We urge national and international companies to offer us job opportunities, and we promise to make the most of them,” he said.

The IT Bridge Academy continues to provide PWDs with industry-recognised IT certifications, improving their employability and financial independence.
