A total of 100 women have graduated from the Women in Technology Bootcamp, a 12-week training programme organised by Glovo in partnership with She Code Africa and the Lagos State Government.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Lagos on Wednesday, Glovo Nigeria’s General Manager, Mrs. Lamide Akinola, highlighted the initiative’s goal of equipping women with technical skills, mentorship, and career development opportunities in the technology sector.
The programme, designed to commemorate Women’s Month, aimed to bridge the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) by offering training in frontend development, backend development, and mobile app development.
“In addition to technical skills, participants received career coaching, soft skills training, and hands-on capstone projects to prepare them for real-world careers in tech,” Akinola said.
She added that Glovo remains committed to fostering diversity and inclusivity in the technology industry, with this initiative marking just the beginning of long-term efforts to empower women in tech.
Among the programme highlights were capstone project presentations, where teams showcased innovative solutions addressing financial literacy, food waste reduction, and academic productivity. Projects were evaluated based on functionality, problem-solving approach, teamwork, and presentation skills.
The winning teams were led by Linda Awo and Abisola Odusanwo for Team One and Shukurat Akanbi and Melody Anaka for Team Two.
Founder of She Code Africa, Ada Oyom, emphasised that beyond technical skills, the programme aimed to build confidence, foster community, and accelerate the representation of African women in STEM fields.
